Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota

Do You Need Legal Help?

You can also apply for legal help in person at the nearest LSNM office or by phone. We have offices in Moorhead, Bemidji, and Alexandria. If you need translation services, ask for those right away.

Call any of our offices Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  We are also open for walk-in service from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

What Will Happen When You Ask for Help?

To be sure that you qualify for our help, we will ask you some questions about the income and assets of your household.  Most applications take about five minutes.  The information you provide to us will not be shared with any person or agency without your permission.

If you do not qualify for our help, we will tell you right away.

Sorry, we cannot help with traffic violations or criminal cases.

If You Qualify for Help:

You will be able to have an initial consultation with a staff attorney, staff paralegal, or a participating attorney in your community to discuss your legal problem.  We may be able to give you some information on how to solve your problem yourself.

If your problem requires a legal advocate, we will determine whether your legal problem falls within our priority plan.  If it does, additional services will be provided to you free of charge.

If you need to visit with an attorney in your area, we will provide a list of attorneys in your county and pay for that visit.  The first consultation is always free to you, even if further services cannot be provided.  In order to provide further legal services, the case must fall within our case priorities.  Services would then be provided free of charge.

If your legal problem does not fall within our priority plan, we will inform you in writing that we cannot accept your case.
